Iron decking at the top level "Lantern Room" which included a dozen or so
round plates which housed glass prisms. At night, while the light was in operation, the light
house keepers would be on duty in the floor below in the "Watch Room." The prisms reflacted
light from the upper room so the personnel could keep an eye on the briteness of the light signal. When
the whale oil ran low and the light dimmed, the prisms displayed to the lighthouse keeper the need
for refueling.
