The proposed west end berm (formerly referred to as the levee) project that
would have involved building a berm beside the bike trail on the south side of
Bienville, was voted on at tonight's Town council meeting.
After discussion
(during which no council member seemed to support the idea as it was), the
following motion was proposed and passed by unanimous vote as the Towns response
to FEMA/EMA "We do not accept the berm project as proposed but are interested
in other options."
The council felt it was important to respond to the proposal
professionally and to put together a response that will share the concerns
the community and Town had about the project - namely issues of access, use,
cost of installation and maintenance of service road, public safety,
utilities, insurance, etc and to have that response be documented so that
in the future they are able to show the government officials they deal with
while the idea was seriously considered and found unacceptable due to
very legitimate problems with the plan; the Town is open to ideas and suggestions.
